Merry Samhain!

Underground Chamber at Findhorn F. Cluny Hill
The Celtic festival of Samhain and the sign of Scorpio herald the darkest time of the year, a vital setting for celebrating the twists and tumults of life, expectantly leading to the composting and fertilization of upcoming blessings.

The power of this autumn seasonal cycle abides in the awareness of the continuity of life through death, the sliding from one universe to the other, the liberation from human arbitrary slavery and the re-union with our multidimensional self.

The Scorpio cycle offers increased opportunities for letting go of secret and grieving stories that continue to affect the personal and collective environment.

The first step in releasing is acknowledging, being transparent. This is the most delicate step, and also the most powerful. It involves taking the risk of facing the issue, of giving it shape, of honestly recapitulating it and challenging denials. This is the first step in any healing enterprise. It is a most courageous and decisive enterprise for this step does not provide the perception that healing is actually taking place. This is the challenge.

Healing is indeed copiously occurring, yet at a level which is beyond our perception. Hence releasing is an act of trust, and this trust is more easily available when the release is preceded by a clear intention.

The structure of the astroshamanic Basic Ritual of the Sacred Cone involves first focusing on an Intention and then proceeding to the release stage, followed by the third stage of integration and healing.

Scorpio is the custodian of the mysteries of what we truly are beyond the identification with the physical body. This identification inescapably expires through death, yet the awareness of death for Scorpio is at work at all times since it abides right at the threshold of the multidimensional gateway.

The awareness of these mysteries has been guarded in most restricted circles and orders, who made it almost inaccessible to initiates and definitely out of bounds for the bulk of ordinary mankind. It seems as if now a time has come for allowing a strategic part of this awareness to flow into the ordinary world. Yet it has to be made clear that this unveiling have cyclically happened on this planet and is part of a loop dynamic rather than the result of evolutionary processes.

Before the denial and separation of later cultures prevailed, the regenerative and renewing power of death was common in all ancient cultures, such as the Celts. For these people life was circular rather than linear and in this context darkness and death played a most significant role. They were considered the beginning of everything. Upon them depended the initiation of the each cycle, just like the seed buried underground in darkness, is the activator of the tree, leaves, fruits and flowers that follow.

This was reflected in commencing each day at dusk rather than dawn. It was also shown in their year starting with the festival of Samhain on 31 October, when nature seems to be dying down. Accordingly, the first month of the Celtic year was Samonios, ‘seed fall’: i.e. “from death and darkness springs life and light”.

The Celts divided the year into two sides: the light and the dark, which they both honoured. Samhain appeared to be the most important of their festival, for it marked the beginning of the new cycle, the moment when the seed of light is stirred in the darkness below the ground, fertilising the womb and laying foundations for all growth.

  1. I find this time of year inspirational at the least. The time cleansing and re-birth of all forms of energy. Most common people close there eyes to the extreme amount of knowledge that can come through the veil this time of year. I for one think that they are missing out on one of life's most precious events...death.
